History
BOLS Strawberry Liqueur was crafted by the Bols family who started the production of liqueurs in a small Amsterdam distillery called 't Lootsje. Lucas Bols, the grandson of the founder, was born in 1652. In 1700, he became a major shareholder in the Dutch East India Company, gaining access to a wealth of exotic herbs and spices. This privilege enabled him to create over 300 liqueur and spirit recipes. Lucas Bols began shipping these liqueurs globally, and upon his death in 1719, he left behind a legacy that continues today. The Bols family also mastered the distillation of Dutch genever, innovating with a more subtle flavor profile. This new Bols Genever contributed significantly to the cocktail revolution, with one in four cocktails in the world's first cocktail recipe book, published in 1862 by bartender Jerry Thomas, featuring genever. In 1883, Bols began maturing genevers in French Limousin oak casks, which inspired the relaunch of Bols Genever Barrel Aged in 2010, further solidifying their place in the spirits industry.
