The 40 Anni Riserva is built on the 2011 vintage — a year of exceptional quality in Trentino, producing Chardonnay of rare concentration and finesse. Only the finest grapes from Rotari's estate vineyards were selected, harvested by hand at peak ripeness, and vinified with the precision the occasion demanded.

Following primary fermentation, the wine underwent secondary fermentation in the bottle — the defining technique of Metodo Classico — before being laid down for extended lees aging. The result of that patient aging: a wine of uncommon depth, creaminess, and complexity that goes well beyond what standard Riserva requirements demand. For the finishing touch, Rotari reached into its own history, using a liqueur d'expédition prepared according to the winery's original ancient recipe — a detail that makes this release not just a celebration of 40 years but a direct connection to where the house began.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Bright golden yellow with warm amber highlights and fine, dense perlage that rises in long, persistent streams. The color speaks immediately to age and lees contact — this is a sparkling wine that has been somewhere, and it shows.

Nose: Evolved, complex, and deeply inviting — the extended lees aging defines the first impression. Freshly baked brioche and cream pastry lead, layered with candied orange rind, toasted hazelnut, and almond. Beneath the autolytic richness, the Trentino Chardonnay's alpine character persists — a clean minerality and bright citrus energy that prevents the richness from ever feeling heavy. Subtle notes of dried apricot, warm honey, and a whisper of mountain herbs add dimension as the wine opens in the glass.

Palate: Ample, creamy, and beautifully structured — the mousse is impossibly fine, coating the palate with a silkiness that reflects both the quality of the base wine and the patience of the extended lees aging. Lemon curd, baked apple, and candied citrus peel build through the mid-palate, supported by a chalky, Alpine minerality that keeps the richness honest. The ancient liqueur d'expédition adds a subtle, integrated sweetness — present but never dominant — lending a roundness and harmony that elevates the wine from excellent to exceptional. Perfectly balanced acidity carries every sip forward with freshness and precision.

Finish: Full, dry, and persistently complex. Toasted almond, lemon zest, warm brioche, and a final note of chalky mineral linger cleanly and gracefully, fading slowly over a finish that rewards patience. This is a sparkling wine that does not end — it evolves.
